District 3 Kin – Make a
Difference
March, 2010
Family of Kin
$4 010 314.00
Let’s
just sit and look at that for a minute, shall we?
THAT is the total raised at Telemiracle 34 March 6 and 7, 2010. Yet again, I am so proud to be a part of District
3 Kin. Our Telemiracle was an
outstanding success once again. Hats off
to the organizers, the Foundation staff and the countless volunteers, Kin and
otherwise who showed up and worked hard to make The Show the amazing success it
was. How many sleeps til we get to do it
again? (I’m fairly certain Watrous Kinette Dawn Lee, Chair of
Telemiracle 35 is counting…)
Believe it or not, Telemiracle was NOT the only important thing that has
happened since my last newsletter. On
February 20th, our organization celebrated its 90th anniversary.
Celebrations took place across the country as Kin took time to come
together in fellowship and gratitude and to honor Founder Hal and Kin
Canada. I was lucky enough to be invited
to the Regina Aboriginal Kin Club’s 10th
anniversary celebration, which
happened to fall on February 20th also. What a GREAT way to celebrate Founder’s
Day. The RAK did an amazing job of
celebrating both Kin and their own culture – it was an incredible event.
We have also had Zone conferences in zones A, C and H. They were all great, but I have to admit my
favorite was Zone A where Deputy
Governor Wendy Liepert got pied not once but TWICE. Wouldn’t we all love to know who was
responsible for that? (I actually do
know, but I am NOT telling…)
Three zone conferences down, five to go –
-
Zone G – Moose Jaw – March 13th starting at noon –
Heritage Inn
-
Zone D – Watrous – March 20th,watch inbox for
details
-
Zone E – April 10th – location TBD, watch inbox
for details
-
Zone B – April 17th – Prince Albert, watch inbox
for details
-
Zone F – April 24th – Shaunavon, you guessed it …
wait for the email.
National President
Sean Thompson was in District 3 for a mini-tour. He was hosted by the Assiniboia Kinettes
(thanks to the Assiniboia and Moose Jaw Kinsmen for coming out as well). We also went to Sturgis, Canora and
Preeceville to take part in the Sturgis
Kinsmen and Kinettes’ 30th
annual Mini Miracle. What an
inspiring group of Kin, and what a generous community! A donation of more than
$30 000.00 was made to TM34 due to their efforts. Well done and thank you for allowing us to be
part of the Miracle. We also connected
with the Yorkton Kinsmen in Elfros… in this case, what happened on the road is
staying on the road. I do have pictures…
On March 5th, the University
of Regina Kin Club was chartered. It
was a wonderful evening, made even more memorable by NP Sean Thompson and Doug
Anthony, Chair of the Charter and Expansion committee participating in the
event. Of course, the stars of the night
were the U of R Kin and I’d say Charter
President Kaitlin Oancia stole the show with her enthusiastic use of the
new gavel presented by Barb Tait,
president of the sponsoring club, the Queen City Kinettes. I know I said it that night, but please bear
with me while I repeat myself – thank you, girls. Thank you SO much. Your enthusiasm, your willingness, your
excitement makes it all worthwhile.
Thank you ALL for
being Kin
