District 3 Kin – Make a
Difference
February, 2010
Family of Kin
“If
not me, who?
If not now, when?”
January was another
excellent month in District 3. We held
our Executive Mid-Term meeting in Yorkton after attending
the Yorkton Kinsmen’s annual Comedy Night, the U of R Kin Club held their first meeting (more on that in a minute)
and the Saskatoon Pow City Kinsmen awarded a Life Membership to Darren Ulmer.
The Life Membership celebration was memorable for a few reasons. First of all, Darren personifies what Kin
should be. There is nothing that guy has
not participated in during his long Kin career and I can only imagine what Life
Member Darren will do next, because he is obviously not ready to ‘retire’. His enthusiasm, his love of family, Kin and
community radiates.
When he finally got his turn
at the mike, Darren spoke at length about his experiences in Kin, official and
otherwise. Between stories of hallway
bowling, saloon building and sitting on the National Board, he repeated Rabbi
Hillel’s famous quote. Hillel the Elder
was a fascinating man (Google him if you get a chance) and he was offering an
admonition to postpone no duty.
Postpone no duty. Is that not Kin in a
nutshell? Is that not what we do, who we
are? When Haiti was devastated by a recent earthquake,
Kin Canada made a sizable contribution from the disaster fund and challenged
clubs to offer what they could. When
Telemiracle needs manpower, more than 300 Kin show up. When a community has a need, Kin is
there. And if not us, who?
February is the beginning of
Telemiracle fundraising in District
3. If your club does not have their
insurance form in, your club does NOT have coverage to run any events. If your club’s incorporation status is not up
to date, you run the risk of losing the club’s tax free status. Please contact your Deputy Governor with any
questions.
Upcoming Events:
-
Telemiracle
is March 6 and 7 in Regina. This year, National President Sean and his wife Karen will be joining us in the trenches, and Sean will be doing a
mini-tour of District 3 in the days around TM.
He will be hosted in Assiniboia, Sturgis and Saskatoon.
-
As well, a phone
team from the newly forming U of R Kin
Club will be at TM AND their charter night is March 5th. Come on out and help us welcome them to the
Family of Kin! It’s going to be a great
night.
-
Founder’s Day is February 20th
and it is our 90th anniversary as an organization. How are YOU going to mark this
occasion? I’m going to celebrate with
the Regina
Aboriginal Kin Club on their 10th anniversary.

o Zone A – Lashburn – February 27th
o Zone B – Prince
